on Tuesday, March, 27th, 2012, 9:30 am

Just few places left Send a short note to sveneggers (at) buero-schwimmer (dot) de now, if you want to join in. The group's size is restricted to 15 participants.

The tour costs 14 euros, reduced 7 euros.

meeting point is at 9:30 on Tuesday, march 27th at the tram stop Schönfließer Straße of M13 and 50. It's a ten minutes walk away from the S- and Ubahnstation Schönhauser Allee and from S-bahnstation Bornholmer Straße.
First we'll visit the GDR kindergarten type series 66/ 2mp at Stavanger Straße, where the heads of the Kita will be with us for questions. Than we'll see the different diplomatic buildings in the area, a type called Pankow II and III. We'll have a 20 minutes walk through a GDR Siedlung including the famous Berlin type from 1960/61 for daynursery (Klaus Deutschmann) and Kindergarden (Erwin Kussat) and a school type SK66 to a good example of the embassy type Pankow I.

The tour will end in a place with drinks and food and discussions nearby.

The diplomatic type Pankow I-III

by the collective Eckart Schmidt, built in 1971 to 1973. After GDR got finally and officially accepted by most western states beginning of the 70ties, many settled down in Pankow. Surprisingly here representative buildings of states were established in a modest and modern villa-style standardized type.

GDR kindergardens

In GDR there were few types of Kindergardens all over the republic. The type series 66, the most famous one, we'll find here as a well-kept example.
Later on the tour we'll have the chance to compare it with a type, built about 10 years before, in the beginning of the Sixties.

We as well will have the chance to see some good examples of modern architecture from the Twenties on the tour.

On Thursday, the 29th of March, the tour continues to the newer embassy buildings near Schloß Schönhausen including houses of Honecker, Ulbricht und Grothewohl, and to a Plattenbauviertel nearby.

Soon we'll have the chance to see a different type of GDR kindergarden, this time in a surprisingly well done renovation.

One tour more in Pankow will happen on Saturday, 14th, we'll see some diplomatic houses but the focus is on urban planning of GDR in the very interesting urban areal around Arnold-Zweig-Straße and we'll check some Weimar era housing like Erwin Gutkind's "Am Eschengraben".

More on the other tours.
